About Us
At Haus Plans it’s our passion to share the construction practices we have learned from over 20 years of general contracting projects. We know there is a need for both homeowners and those who want to become contractors to gain building knowledge, so we create videos showing up close all the different hands-on activities that we do.
We are a husband-and-wife team that met in college as art majors; then after we both had worked in our related fields for a few years we got into construction. The wife’s father was a builder who taught us about building as we built our first and second homes. In 2004, we began building spec homes. After the Housing Recession hit, we started doing custom work for clients. At first, we built new construction homes, and later we did a lot of renovations and additions. Eventually, some of our residential clients hired us for light commercial projects at their places of business. We did a large office build-out for an excavation firm and a bunch of bank renovations. Most recently, we built two warehouses for ourselves to rent to tenants. Coming up we’re going to build our own home on land we just bought. This will be the 7th house that we built for ourselves personally.
In January 2022, when we were building an addition, we started posting videos to TikTok to show a quick look at the work being done each day. After a couple of those videos went viral and people started asking for an explanation of what we were doing, we added a voiceover to explain the processes in more detail. Later we started posting to other platforms: Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, and Facebook. We now have over 3 million followers across all platforms.
We have two kids who majored in business in college, and they help with our Haus Plans social media. Our daughter modeled during her teenage years, so we learned from her experiences how to use social media. Our son filmed a few of the original videos and works with us on some of our construction projects.
Of course, we can’t forget to mention our furry employee, “The New Guy”. We got this little chihuahua puppy in December 2022 and found that he always wanted to be where we were working; so, we got him a pet helmet for job safety and let him come to work.
